Health Education & Awareness
We have provided 712 families with mental health awareness through art workshops utilizing tai chi, art, and drumming therapy. These workshops have significantly improved the mental well-being of our community members. For instance, Tyshawn, a father of two, reported a 30% reduction in his stress levels after attending our drumming circle. Many others like him have found these workshops to be a safe space for expression, with some reporting reduced stress and improved coping skills.
Did you know that stress, a state of mental or emotional strain, is proven to be detrimental to our physical and mental health? One of the most effective ways to combat stress is through art. Studies have shown that engaging in activities like drawing, exercise, martial arts, and even drumming for 20-plus minutes can significantly reduce cortisol levels. Cortisol is a hormone that is released in response to stress, and high levels of it can lead to various health issues. By reducing cortisol levels, we can effectively manage stress and improve our overall well-being.
Painting is not just a form of art, it's a powerful tool that reduces stress and helps with depression. Many individuals battling depression have found a sense of accomplishment and pride in their paintings, feelings that they may not have experienced in years or never at all.
Tai Chi is a gentle Chinese martial art of slow, meditative physical exercise designed for relaxation and balance and also promotes spiritual contemplation. It is defined as the grand ultimate. Tai Chi helps to relax the body and improve mental focus and concentration. It also helps reduce stress and anxiety and increases flexibility and balance.
Drumming therapy is a comprehensive tool for mental well-being. It's an educational and therapeutic methodology that promotes expression and healing through the sounds and rhythms of drumming. This unique process encourages students to release inner trauma through physical movement, meditative rhythms, and breathing techniques. It also provides cardiovascular exercises for health, making it a well-rounded approach to mental well-being.
